COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jan. 23, 2013 – Customers of Dayton Power & Light Co. (DP&L) will have opportunities at two hearings to speak about the utility’s electric rate proposal. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has scheduled two local public hearings:
Tuesday, January 29th at 1pm AND 6pm
Dayton Municipal Building
Council Chambers, 2nd Floor
101 W. Third Street (Third & Ludlow)
Dayton, OH 45401
DP&L is proposing new rates for the electricity it sells to customers, for the period January 2013 through December 2017. The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) is reviewing the utility’s proposal and will make its own proposal to the PUCO at a later hearing, on behalf of DP&L’s 455,000 residential customers.
OCC will be hosting a webinar on Friday January 25th at 12:30pm to educate consumers about the rate proposal. Consumers interested in attending the webinar should email email@example.com.
DP&L’s proposal includes two new charges that could increase customers’ bills:
Under DP&L’s proposal, customers would have to pay both charges to DP&L even if customers purchase their electricity generation from a supplier other than DP&L. OCC opposes both charges and is recommending that the PUCO deny DP&L’s proposals.
Another important issue is DP&L’s proposal to base its charge for electricity on the market price. Currently, the PUCO regulates DP&L’s rate for the generation of electricity. The market price for generating electricity would currently provide customers with a low price. DP&L is proposing that its generation rates would not be completely based on market prices until June 2016. OCC supports a faster shift to market-based rates so that consumers may benefit from currently low energy prices.
Customers can learn more about DP&L’s proposal through a live webinar hosted by OCC on Friday, January 25th at 12:30pm. Consumers interested in attending the webinar should email firstname.lastname@example.org. To find out more about the rate proposal, visit: http://www.pickocc.org/electric/dpl.shtml
