Correction - Bill impact of FirstEnergy rate proposal is unknown

COLUMBUS, Ohio – June 26, 2012 – A joint press release issued June 22, 2012 by the Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel (OCC), Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) and Northwest Ohio Aggregation Coalition (NOAC) ("the Consumer Advocates") included projections that the rates paid by customers of Cleveland Electric Illuminating, Ohio Edison and Toledo Edison (FirstEnergy) would increase 4 to 30 percent under FirstEnergy's proposed electric security plan. Regrettably, OCC misread the residential customer bill comparison estimates provided by FirstEnergy. The estimated increases in the June 22, 2012 press release are not the correct representation of the bill impacts of FirstEnergy's proposal. According to FirstEnergy, "the impacts on typical bills for the period June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2016 are unknown at this time." This correction does not affect the Consumer Advocates' other recommendations for protecting consumers in this case.

OCC regrets any confusion that this may have caused.
