CONFERENCE CALL FOR MEDIA:
More than 40 groups urge legislature to protect telephone customers

What: More than 40 consumer, senior and low-income groups will urge lawmakers to oppose Senate Bill 162 and House Bill 276, which allow rate increases for basic telephone services, weaken consumer protections, lower telephone service quality standards, reduce low-income Lifeline benefits and fail to expand broadband access.

Why: Consumer groups urge lawmakers to oppose Senate Bill 162 and House Bill 276 as currently drafted as state House and Senate committees continue to consider the bills. The bills would allow rate increases, weaken consumer protections, reduce low-income consumer benefits, lower service quality standards and fail to provide broadband access to all Ohioans.
