Consumers’ Counsel: Decision on AEP’s temporary rates fair to consumers
COLUMBUS, Ohio — December 19, 2008 — The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel
is pleased that its recommendations were supported through a decision by the
Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to keep American Electric Power
(AEP) rates stable through February 2009.
“The PUCO has kept rates from increasing on at least a temporary basis,
which is consistent with our office’s recommendations and with Ohio law,” said
Janine Migden-Ostrander, Consumers’ Counsel. “However, we continue
to oppose AEP’s pending long-term electric security plan that would increase
rates by more than 50 percent over three years.”
