Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel

Brown Bag Discussion Series

The Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) has developed a series of informal discussions on utility topics that could help your employees make more informed decisions. If you currently offer “brown bag” presentations to your employees or would like to begin a program series, we want to be on your schedule.

The following are examples of topics the OCC can discuss, free of charge:

  • How to read your telephone bill
  • Do-it-yourself gas and electric meter reading
  • How to avoid getting “crammed” and other scams to watch out for
  • What to know before using 10-10 numbers
  • How to choose a long-distance carrier
  • Learn how easy it is to choose a new natural gas supplier
  • How electric deregulation will affect you
  • How the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel can help you

Free speakers are available for:

Groups or organizations • Your office staff • Conference or seminar

The OCC is an advocate for residential consumers with regard to utility issues. The agency operates a toll-free hotline to provide information and help resolve consumer concerns about electric, natural gas, telephone and water.

Please plan to make arrangements at least THREE weeks prior to your event by contacting us by calling (614) 387-2966 or email: brownbag@occ.state.oh.us

Please Note:

OCC has had to cancel many of its services, including its consumer call center, due to recent budget cuts. We realize you may continue to need assistance with your utility services. OCC's website provides free access to publications and resources.

You may seek assistance with utility complaints from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio: 800-686-7826. For complaints about non-utility related services, you may call the Ohio Attorney General at 800-282-0515.
